Race location was the Chute village hall set in a picturesque spot between upper and lower Chute and as everyone started to arrive they were greeted at the gate by a big beamer of a smile from race organiser Simon Thomas. It was also a stonker of a day. The sun was out and there was a real buzz of excitement.
According to Nicky Thomas there was a good mix of experienced and some beginner racers who’d chosen to race on the Plus because they weren’t able to make the standard race on Sunday. Oh well, “in for a penny in for a pound!
However, a few of the usual teams, notably Sleepmonsters, were slacking off ... I’m sorry I meant were unable to make it! There was rumour of a feeble excuse about some tough old race the weekend before ... Hah! Seriously well done for winning the Ace Race team series prize!
For those of you who are new to the Dynamic Plus it’s an 8hr race split between mountain biking and running and the goal is to try and collect 36 checkpoints within the 8 hrs. So after Simon’s race briefing there was the usual mandatory kit check and first timers Team Buckfast – Brian McIntosh, Kirstin Davies and Tim Robinson came to this with all their kit, bikes, helmets etc. and then announced that they were running first!
Soon enough the race started and unbeknown to the local Saturday morning shoot at Fosbury they were about to get a few extra beaters, provided by the competitors as they passed through the farmland during the shoot.
Simon warned everyone before the race started that he expected the course to be fast and for there to be a few clearances and he wasn’t disappointed. Of those who ran first quite a few cleared the course:
