Thunderstorms and lightning ... very, very frightening

Susan McKenzie / 04.10.2005See All Event Posts Follow Event
Nine millimetres fell today, and another ten are expected tomorrow.

After two days of gorgeous sun and clear skies, the weather has taken a rotten turn for the worse. At sunset, the rainstorms turned to thunderstorms as lightning lit the sky over the jumar/abseil at CP25.

It is a stunning view, with a waterfall backdrop, but none of the top teams will get a chance to see it as they make the river crossing to the ropes section in pitch dark, over slick rocks and rushing water.

Buff Nike ACG has kept its lead, but Merrell Wigwam Adventure is slowly moving up the leaderboard, having overtaken the Swedish team Cross Sportswear on the kayaks.

The Swedes will fall further behind later tonight, when they must take their final one hour mandatory sleep. Merrell has completed its mandatory four hours and is \"done with sleeping\" according to Robyn Benincasa.

The winners are expected to cross the finish line sometime tomorrow (Wednesday) evening.
