Overnight and in the early hours of this morning, three more teams crossed the finish line: Clight Salomon Atenah (Brazil), DART (Canada/USA) and SOLE (USA/Australia).

Clight was the final team in the top five to complete the entire course, including the rappel down beside the 130-metre Caracol Waterfalls.

“When we got there, they said ‘No way, too dangerous, says SOLE’s Karen Lundgren. Instead, the team had to run down all 937 steps (give or take a few) in order to pick up the ropes again.

“It was cold and foggy and we could hardly see anything, says Lundgren. “The only rope we could see turned out to be the rope back to the rappel, not the one leading down. We did find it eventually, but it was hard to see anything with the spray and the fog.
