Shiver in My Bones Just Thinking About the Weather
Susan McKenzie / 07.10.2005

There was a little bit of blue sky briefly, but a second glance must have scared it away. It was pouring buckets and thundering when \'Papaterra/Copesul/Try On\' crossed the finish line in Gramado late this afternoon.
The team, whose name means “eat dirt, was dirty and wet but relieved to be done. Soon after Papaterra, fellow Brazilians Try On Landscape finished, followed by the first Portuguese team to finish, Portuguese Spirit.
With his bike chain dangling from his handlebars, Portuguese Spirit’s Nuno Pereira did a little kick/push to get his bike across the finish.
Just after 5pm the rain cleared. It was just long enough to allow the last North American team to cross the finish line.
There is an advantage to finishing in the middle of the afternoon, two days after the winners: more people on hand to greet you. Members of Bosi Colombia and SOLE, photographers, race organizers and spectators were on hand to welcome Feed the Machine/Team Amino Vital.
“My feet are pretty sore, and I think I crashed my bike about six times last night said Bernice Pierson. “But that was so cool. It was really great.
“I wish we could have stayed out there longer, Christian Burke said with feeling (and he meant it.) “I miss it already.
As of five-thirty this afternoon, more than thirty teams had crossed the finish line officially ranked. There was a bit of a technological glitch this morning when Clight Salomon Atenah was inadvertently disqualified. They weren’t, it was just a typo.
