Team Bagel Works Beats the Storm

On September 9th, more than 220 adventure racers battled it out for prize money, fame and points in the series at the Vail Adventure Xstream 12 hour and Sprint Adventure races.

The weather made for an added adventure for these athletes as racers battled wind, rain, hail and lightening. Race organizers shortened the mountain bike section to get racers off of the mountain sooner.

A battle for first place among the top teams in the 4 Person Co-ed category ensued early in the race with Team Durango.org, Team Bagel Works and Team Go Lite/Timberland Sprint right on each other’s heels. Team Durango.org made a costly navigational error which set them back and Go Lite/Timberland was 3-5 minutes behind Team Bagel Works entering into the final paddle leg. Team Bagel Works ended up maintaining their lead and came in first place in the Vail Adventure Xstream Race 4-person Co-ed category with a winning time of 5 hours and 33 minutes.

Second and third place went to Team Go Lite/Timberland Sprint and Team Durango.org respectively.

First place solo male finisher in the Vail 12-hr race was Jeremy Rodgers (Team Boulder Performance Network) with a winning time of 5 hours and 43 minutes. First place solo female finisher in the 12-hour race and 2nd overall went to Danelle Ballengee (Team Spyder) with a winning time of 5 hours and 41 minutes.

The winner in the 2-person co-ed category 12 Hour Race was won by Team Western State College (Kate Chapman & Garrett Brady) with a finishing time of 6 hours and 51 minutes followed less than 5 minutes later by Team Santa Fe Bear Pair (Jan & Kim Bear).

1st place in the 4 person co-ed category in the Sprint Race went to Team Evergreen with a winning time of 3 hours and 6 minutes.
