Salomon Adventure Challenge Championship
Simon River Captures Another Title
Press Release / 24.10.2006

Team SRS, from Quebec, has been racing mostly in Canada and the States for the past eight years.Recently finishing 12th at the AR World Championships in Sweden, they are one of the most competitive teams in Canada.
Team adidas Canada and Beowulf leap-frogged each other throughout the race. adidas arrived at the start of the paddle early enough to grab one of the lighter canoes, but the combined weight of their muscular bodies was too much for the lightweight canoe. After a quick flip in the lake, they returned to grab a heavier, more stable boat and were off. As luck would have it, the adidas divas arrived shortly after, grabbed the nice light boat their boys had left behind, and were off like a shot, making excellent time in the paddle.
Several other teams made an outstanding showing in spirit and tenacity. Team Ruckus, one of the all female teams competing in the SAC Champs, were unwilling to pack it in, even after a gruelling canoe and portage leg that saw them come into the 4th checkpoint in last place. They got on their bikes with over 50kms to go and pushed on to the finish line, smiling and enjoying every moment. Great AR spirit!
Two contest winners won the opportunity to race with adventure racing legend Dave Zietsma on Team Salomon Women Will…. Sally Heath and Nuala Grieve raced bravely with Zietsma navigating them through Bob Miller’s technical course.
“I was so thrilled to have won one of the spots on the (Salomon Women Will...) team, and getting to race with Dave Zietsma was a great experience (though I can barely walk!), said Sally Heath. “I learned a lot from Dave about the commitment it takes to really be competitive, and about planning and teamwork strategies. Thanks to all the staff for putting on a great end of season race!
The next event in the series is a winter Salomon Adventure Challenge, featuring cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and sledding. Mansfield Outdoor Centre, just an hour north of Toronto, hosts the festivities on January 20, with great accommodation packages, a memorable post-race party and yoga Sunday morning.
