Seattle Oyster Adventure Race
Information and maybe a little help for the race.
Press Release / 29.08.2007

The race is nearing and we wanted to provide you with some details. Also, as you know, the race is keen on clues/hints. One of our mantras is read all things carefully. There might be tidbits in here for you.
1. Great turnout at the Cracking the Oyster Seminar on August 22nd! Team turnout is going very well - thank you!
2. There are always late entry teams. If you want to participate (or know folks), please enter your team here: Seattle, WA - September 23, 2007
3. BIG NEWS - we are changing the 6 Pack Team. We've had many instances of teams wanting to be any gender and not the mandatory 2 guys and 2 girls as we designed it. Each team has echoed that this is not a competitive event for them, but a fun event. So, with that thought the 6 Pack is now an any gender division. If you would like to add/delete teammates due to this information, please call us at 877-328-2783. Sorry for any inconvenience, but it seems the teams are pushing for this in the future so let's do it now.
4. Remember, this is a pledge race. A minimum of $300 needs to be raised. And, for each pledge level above $300 your team reaches ($500, $800, $1000, $1500, etc.) you receive a "pearl" for as a chance to win great prizes and a "Rockefeller" that allows one team member to opt-out of a discipline they may not be able to optimally perform. 6 Pack and Family pledge levels vary slightly - please see Race Book for details.
5. Once you have registered your team to participate, you can have friends/family donate to you on-line here. Just send them the link and have them enter their payment information. Or, collect checks/cash for donations.
And, team captains can check your team's donation totals by going to this page. Use this as a way to see who donated and send thank yous.
To make sure the email gets through your spam filters add sales@teamsage.com and sales@tppevents.com to your always accept lists.
6. Get a FREE Oyster Tech Shirt. Simply buy a pair of Merrell Overdrives at REI.com or spend $150 in gear from any REI up until September 21st. Bring your receipt to the team check-in on Saturday the 22nd (and wear your shoes if you bought the Overdrives) and we'll get you your FREE Oyster Tech Shirt - $40 value.
7. For gear, here's the word.
- Road bike, cycle cross or mountain bike are fine for this year's course.
- If there is water navigation on the course we will have water craft and PFDs for you.
- Other than water transport, we reserve the right to get you wet. Just a friendly reminder.
- Bring a small digital camera or cell phone. Some destinations will be self checked and proof will be your photo.
- For the skating sections, non-motorized scooters are permissible. We encourage you to use the larger wheel kind versus the Razor-like scooters. Skateboards are also a passable method of transportation for this section(s) of the race.
- Always good to have some spare change on hand during the race.
- The transition area will be the REI at 222 Yale Ave. N. You can start loading your gear at 6am on race day. Your spots are first-come, first-served. Family division can load starting at 8:30am.
8. Team registration and packet pick-up is from 1pm-4pm on Saturday, September 22nd at REI (222 Yale Ave. N). We are upstairs in their meeting rooms. You will also turn in any checks or cash and finalize your donation totals at this time.
- On-line donations will stop at Noon on Saturday the 22nd. Cash and checks can be turned in throughout the team registration period from 1pm-4pm on the 22nd. Please inform your donors.
9. After party with beer, eats and prizes starts when two-thirds of the teams have completed the course and it will be held at the Transition Area. Estimating between 2pm and 3pm, but will vary depending upon how well our teams do.
10. If you are traveling from out of town (or have friends traveling), please consider our lodging partner Marriott Spring Hill Suites. They have special lodging prices.
11. Need to get some quick training in? The Seattle Athletic Club is the place to train with Oyster-specific programs. Give them a shout!
12. Come into Toyota of Seattle (2121 8th Ave) starting September 4th and deliver to the cashier 5 items or 5 pounds of non-perishable foods that will be donated to Food Lifeline. In exchange for doing so each team will receive one FREE Oyster Rockefeller to be used on the course, one additional Pearl for prize drawings and an Oyster Racing shirt.
Cheers!
