Goretex Trans Rockies Run
Dressed for the Trail
Fredrik Olmqvist / 21.09.2007

After running 28.3 miles (45.3 km) it feels good to relax in the sun, 32C today, with a cold beer - alcohol free since there is no bar around - unless you happen to know some friendly Canadians.
After the start, at 8.30am, we ascended on a jeep trail about two hours up to Hagerman Pass at 12,000 feet. Again it was a beautiful day in the Rockies. My running partner Elinor was looking stylish in the Rockies, wearing her gorgeous leopard skin arm warmers and bright coloured gaiters from Dirty Girl.com, which she had attached on the back of the shoes with velcro.
Myself I was wearing my Kawasaki green super breathable poly undergarment Pro Zero Extreme from Craft (a green slightly deeper than a Hornitos Tequila label). Thus we were feeling good going downhill on the remaining part of the course, especially with some painkillers - just in case a team with clashing colours passed us!
Just after the third and last checkpoint, with some 8 miles to go, we passed the third team in the mixed class (Team Mountain Goats: Joe Holland towing Christine Evans), which boasted us even more. Our time crossing the finish line was 4h 38 min, 22 minutes behind winning Team Running Times (in the mixed category).
Four done, just one to go, and a short one, just 18 miles (29.3km) and some 2,000 ft of gradual climbing (approx. 600 m). To miss out on third overall position we need to loose 23 minutes to the sealevel guys in Team Powerbar NYC & Cali (who by principle don’t tow). So we have an advantage - and I also have a few painkillers left!
