Judges’ decision: yesterday’s finish times stand
Jacqueline Windh / 23.09.2007

Team Sole appealed to Race Director Jorge Diego Llano about yesterday’s finish times. Teams Sole and RÃos y Canoas A, who were navigating and travelling together, each lost about an hour due to confusion over where the finish line was. The original finish line location, in a downtown park, was unexpectedly not available due to an impromptu political rally.
Team Sole recommended that arrival times at PC6, the last PC before the confusion started, be used, but the judges have rejected that recommendation. Jorge explains:
“Team Sole came to speak to us in a very respectful way, and they had a recommendation. I took that recommendation to the judges and we discussed it. We decided against. Only those two teams had any problems with the location – no other team had any problem with it. We feel that the two of them were overconfident about each other’s knowledge. One said there is a new location, the other said we already know the way there, and neither read the instructions at PC6, which were very clear, written in both English and Spanish.
