After a narrow lead on day 1 of only 2 minutes over Guy Andrews, with Jarad Kohlar and Boyd Conrick a mere 5 minutes further back, it was going to be a battle to the finish on day 2.

Day 1 wasn't all plain sailing, a lead of around 8 minutes by Guy Andrews over Ussher was narrowed down, it was only in the latter stages of the final run that the Kiwi ran down Guy Andrews, giving himself a 2 minute buffer going into day 2. Meanwhile Jarad Kohlar and Boyd Conrick shared 3rd and 4th. Jarad had finsished before Boyd however some local pranksters had decided to change some markers within a couple of kms of the finish, thus sending 4 of the top 5 on a bit of a detour, forcing officials to adjust timings and reshuffling the final standings. Chris Dealney was with with Simon Manson in 6th spot.

The womens race had race favourite Christie Sym finishing Day 1 with a 16 minute lead over Kim Bekinsale, with Amanda Rankin a further 20 mins back.
