Raid the North Canadian Championships
And then there were five

The top five teams at the Raid the North Canadian Championships were guaranteed entrance into the World Champs. The final slot was filled shortly after eleven this morning, when Team Spirit crossed the finish line in fifth place, just behind Runningfree. Spirit would prove to be the last team to finish the advanced course, though Jimmy’s Night Out and Phoenix finished sixth and seventh respectively, both on the regular course. Other teams, such as Hunger - 30 Hour Famine, did complete the full course but came in two hours too late to be officially ranked.
“That was a brutal course, Spirit’s Elsa Dahlie said. “Dave, Chris and I are still feeling the effects of the Extreme in Atikokan, and Darren just did the Ironman before this. It’s over, but it felt so long. It was so fast, we ran so much.
The course itself was officially closed at one pm, but some teams remained on course. They are in the process of being advanced to CP7, then to the finish. The awards banquet, which was supposed to take place at 5pm, has been bumped back to 6pm, so Simon River Sports will have to wait a while longer to see if they captured the Raid the North Series title for 2003, as well as the Championship title and an entry into the World Champs. They’ve been busy doing to math, to see if they have enough to pass Spirit for first.
