The routes took the teams through the beautiful Inkwenkwezi Private Game reserve and surrounding farms. Two routes took participants to the Cefane river for their paddling section and several other interesting challenges. They ran a grueling beach run to the resort town of Chintsa and then back into Inkwenkwezi for the final obstacle (archery) and the finish.
The Eastern Cape of South Africa has so much to offer, and this race utilized every single bit of it. Being in the same province as the recently completed XPD Africa, shows that we have what it takes. From our mountain ranges and cascading waterfalls to the untouched beaches that go on and on for kilometers, there is nothing that the Eastern Cape doesn’t have.
This event is on every school-going child’s calendar and if it’s not, they make sure mom puts it there. Teams from all over South Africa come to take part in this prestigious event that has been running annually for twelve years. Donovan Sims of Team Merrell Adventure Addicts was blown away by the enthusiasm the little athletes. “Watch this space; they might be small now.. but just watch!” commented Donovan on the growth of adventure racing in South Africa.
The grade 1 – 4 adventure race saw the children achieve a sense of accomplishment as they ran 2km and cycled 2.5km through Inkwenkwezi. According to Lauren Du Preez, a parent, “the little ones, both the winners and the stragglers feel like absolute champions”.

With the Eastern Cape being the Adventure Province, your Adventure truly does start here at Lilyfontein School.
