Bimbache Extrem Platja d’Aro Press Team / 11.09.2013

After some changes to the design of the route and with a new Race Director, Antonio de la Rosa, the Bimbache Extrem Platja d’Aro started at noon today, September 10th. The city sports and tourism councilor and Emma Roca, who came to support the race, gave the starting signal to set the teams off.
The race started with a 38km trekking following “Camí de Ronda” along the coast and through the towns of Palamos, Palafurgell and Begur. CP3 was located in Torroella de Montgrí, at the camp site Delfín Verde. The first two teams to arrive were Buff Adventure Addicts, followed by the Danes Salomon Trail Tour and in 3rd place Team Cyanosis from South Africa.
From here the teams started a long MTB section of 168km towards Vallter (2200m above sea level), in the Pyrenees where they were expected around 3am, and where they will start the second trekking section. At the end of this section they will arrive at “Vall de Núria” where they’ll have the mandatory midway camp and where the second set of maps will be issued.
Weather conditions haven`t been as good as hoped during day today, and they will get worse when teams get to the mountains. Cold temperatures and heavy rain are expected to follow the race, at least until tomorrow morning.
