Saint-Donat, Septembre 15th, 2013. The first edition of the Grand Prix Endurance Aventure – Saint-Donat took place last Saturday in Saint-Donat, in the beautiful landscape of the Laurentides area. Various endurance competitions were held during the day, including a triathlon, running races and an Adventure race. The ultimate race, the Grand Prix, was a combination of the triathlon in the morning and the Adventure Raid in the afternoon.

Almost 200 racers were on the starting line for one of the races organized by Endurance Aventure in collaboration with the municipality of Saint-Donat. “We are very happy to see that the interest for this kind of event is higher than ever. The wonderful atmosphere contributed to the success of this event, the residents of Saint-Donat were present all along the route to support the racers. Moreover, the athletes had only good words about the beauty of the route and of the area!”, said Jean-Thomas Boily, one of the organizers. The participants came from all over Quebec. The event was also covered by international media with the presence of the French television, in addition to various national media.

The triathlon included a 750 m swim, 20 km ride and 6 km of running. The athletes jumped off a boat to start the 750 m swim and reached the shores of Archambault Lake. The triathletes then had the chance to take a wonderful bike route for 20 km on the road following Lake Ouareau.  In order to complete the race, the athletes ran for 6 km on a route that was a mix of asphalted road and wooded cycle paths, including the famous “Montée du diable” hill about 500 m from the arrival at the Parc des Pionners.

Participants in the Raid Endurance Aventure went off the beaten tracks, and had to swim, take their mountain bikes and run off-road, reaching notably the top of Mont Garceau and Mont Sourire.  Some surprises were along the route, among which a block section where they had to find their way through huge blocks of rocks, allowing the passage of one person at a time!
