Born Survivor
Born Survivor Storms Lowther Castle
News Release / 23.09.2013

On the 21st September 2013, over 1,200 participants completed the inaugural Born Survivor event, a military inspired obstacle course designed by elite armed forces personnel. The brainchild of an ex-Royal Marines’ Commando and Falkland’s veteran, Born Survivor took place within Lowther Castle’s deer park and featured 40 purpose built obstacles and 1,000 ft of ascent across a 10km course.
Matt Leigh, from Born Survivor, said, “It’s been an incredible day at Lowther Castle; the atmosphere was electric from the word go. We’ve had individuals and teams from across the U.K. and abroad take on the Born Survivor course and the response to this first event has been amazing. It’s a bold new twist on a tried-and-tested formula and I’m sure all of those who took part will agree it wasn’t your average 10km or mud run; it was designed to be brutal and raw with teamwork being an essential ingredient for success. Those who finished certainly deserve to wear their Born Survivor t-shirts, headbands and dog tags with pride.”
With 7 waves of up to 200 people setting off every half hour, the course started and finished at the Born Survivor event village, where festival inspired food, drink, entertainment and camping were made available for both participants and spectators, including a 100ft inflatable obstacle course for children. The official Born Survivor sponsors Teva and 9Bar were in attendance on the day, alongside the event’s nominated charities: The Soldiers’ Charity and Lancaster based Unique Kidz. The day was drawn to a close by Kendal’s own rock band The Seals who played live for over 3 hours, during which time they encouraged the final teams and individuals across the finish line.
Matt Leigh continued, “With the first Born Survivor being such a success, we’re now focussed on our next event on the 12th April 2014 when we’ll be coming back to Lowther Castle for Born Survivor Reloaded. We’ll purposely be offering people the same quality Born Survivor experience, but with a few twists and surprises thrown in along the way. We’ve already opened entries online for a reduced fee and registrations are coming in thick and fast.”
