Born Survivor Manchester
Born Survivor Storms Capesthorne Hall
News Release / 01.10.2014

On the 27th September 2014, close to 2,000 participants completed the latest Born Survivor obstacle course at Capesthorne Hall near Manchester. The brainchild of an ex-Royal Marine Commando and Falkland’s veteran, the event featured a specially designed, military inspired, obstacle course over both 10km and marathon distances, all created within the grounds of Capesthorne Hall estate.
Matt Leigh, Born Survivor’s general manager, said, “It was an incredible day for our participants at the glorious Capesthorne Hall. Despite this being only our third event, we had individuals and teams from across the UK join us on the day, with some groups bringing over 100 people each. The 10km course featured over 30 hardcore obstacles and attracted a wide range of ages and abilities, all of whom battled their way round a course that has to be our muddiest and best yet.”
“This was complemented by what can only be described as a brutal marathon course which was purposely limited to a small number of entries for safety reasons. The 42km mile race took participants over 120 obstacles and with only 7.5 hours to complete the event, we always knew it was going to be one of the toughest obstacle challenges out there. We had some amazing athletes take part and out of the 92 people that started, an incredible 80 people crossed the finish line within the time limit. The first female across the line was Vicky Stearns and the men’s winner was Darran Todd.”
Both the 10km and marathon events started and finished at the Born Survivor event village, where festival inspired food, drink, entertainment and a kids’ obstacle course were made available for participants, as well as the estimated 1,500 spectators. Born Survivor’s sponsors were in attendance on the day and included Grizzly Active, 9Bar, Obstacle Kit, Muddy Race, Mudstacle, and OTE Sports, alongside the event’s nominated charities, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, The Soldiers’ Charity and Unique Kidz.
Matt Leigh said, “With another event successfully delivered, we’ve opened entries for the next Born Survivor, which takes place at Lowther Castle in the Lake District on the 4th April 2015. Interest is already high for this event and entries are coming in thick and fast.”
