Cumberland’s Treasures Keep Racers Coming Back to the MOMAR

The Atmosphere Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR) returns to Cumberland, British Columbia on September 26, 2015, for its 16th season.  MOMAR Race Director, Bryan Tasaka, believes the amazing local support and the world-class terrain draw racers to the Cumberland MOMAR in growing numbers.

“I can’t say enough good about the community and the natural surroundings of Cumberland,” says Tasaka. “We have so much support here, including sponsors, volunteers, a pool of top notch racers, and preservation groups who keep the forests and trails not only available but in world class condition.”

The MOMAR has partnered with the Cumberland Community Forest Society (CCFS), an organization dedicated to preserving 150 acres of mature forest bordering the Village of Cumberland, from Comox Lake to The Trent River.

“The CCFS has done an amazing job in protecting the surrounding forest,” says Tasaka.  “Not only have they protected the watershed, flora and wildlife, their efforts have allowed recreation to flourish in the area.”

Over 600 racers will be participating in the MOMAR, making it the largest adventure race in North America. Racers will be heading to the Comox Valley from Quebec, Ontario, Whitehorse, Oregon, Washington State, and all over BC and Alberta.

The public is invited to Cumberland Village Park to cheer on the racers as they cross the finish line. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, including a fundraising barbeque put on the CCFS.

Race organizers are still looking for volunteers for race day. The MOMAR will be donating $5 to both the Cumberland Community Forest Society and the Comox Valley Search and Rescue for every registered volunteer. All volunteers will also receive a ticket for the MOMAR’s legendary after-party at Mount Washington Alpine Resort. For more information on volunteering, visitwww.mindovermountain.com/MOMAR or contact lisa@mindovermountain.com.

The MOMAR is an off-road multisport sprint adventure race that requires participants to navigate their way to a series of checkpoints, in hopes of crossing the finish line within the 8 hour limit. The disciplines include mountain biking, paddling, and trail running over scenic and rugged west coast terrain. The MOMAR series has staged 37 races in British Columbia, Canada over 16 race seasons.
