Salomon-Suunto Stretch Their Lead

Press Release / 08.09.2016See All Event Posts Follow Event

This year’s Wenger Czech Adventure Race follows the pattern in which multiple stages are joined together before the teams return to the race center and get access to their gear. This makes logistics for teams harder as they need to think how much food and equipment for further stages they will need. But on the other hand they do not have to go through the same access route to the camp seven times and it allows them to visit more places.

So on the first day and night teams first biked downriver to Katovice then walked back to race headquarters, took canoes and paddled back to Katovice so they were able to continue on the bikes that were stored there.

It is important to note, that this Katovice is not in Poland. This one is close to Munich. Which is not the one in Germany. This region has everything.

The night confirmed what the first day suggested. Salomon-Suunto gained more and more on their competitors. They spent a full hour in the transition before the canoeing stage, they had plenty of food, but their advantage still grew.

During the first day, four teams competed for the third place and were within minutes. During the the night trek, Polish team AR Poznań Junior moved into second place and Kompar XStream started to shift up through the pack into third place.

The canoeing stage has confirmed that Polish teams tend to be bad paddlers, and they fell back to the third place. On the other hand teams on the fourth and fifth place lost even more.

From Katovice teams continued on bikes to Nicov which is designated as transition area B. However the way there is hard. It is a 140 kilometers long bike stage with over 3000 meters of elevation gain. It would be a very hard bike marathon by itself. But this stage also included the (in)famous Bolscross.

This year’s edition was in an old flooded quarry. Basically competitors had to swim across the quarry three times, climb up on the net and on a rope-ladder, run around in a very difficult terrain and do all this fun for about 30 minutes. It was very difficult, but as always people seemed to like it.

On the very next checkpoint, there was an orienteering section. At the time of writing this report only the first team managed to complete it. It took them 3 hours and 10 minutes, which makes it a fairly regular trekking stage. The terrain was rough and very steep. At least they got view to the Kašperk castle.

During the biking stage Salomon-Suunto continued with their flawless performance. They even managed to get a beer on the course yet their lead remained solid. The second place is still open as three teams reached the orienteering section within five minutes of each other. The order was AR Poznań Junior, EPO EjOj, Kompar XStream.
